Fuel system

The Fuel System category covers components responsible for storing, transporting and metering fuel to the engine. Besides fuel filters (available in a separate category) you will find feed pumps, hand priming pumps, fuel lines, fittings, shut-off valves and fuel-tank components.

A healthy fuel system ensures constant pressure and fuel cleanliness at the high-pressure pump inlet. Leaks, air ingress or contamination at any stage lead to power loss, hard starting and potential damage to costly injection components.

Frequently asked questions

How do I bleed the fuel system after a filter change?

Use the priming pump (hand feed pump) mounted on the fuel-filter housing. Pump until fuel flows without air bubbles through the bleed valve. In modern common-rail systems bleeding may be automatic after a few cranking attempts.

When should the fuel feed pump be replaced?

The feed pump needs replacing when outlet pressure falls below specification (typically 0.3-0.5 bar), which shows as hard starting, power loss under full load and engine stalling at idle.

What are the risks of using low-quality fuel lines?

Lines not rated for biodiesel (FAME) swell and crumble, releasing rubber particles into the system. Internal delamination blocks filters and damages pumps. Use lines rated for fuel blended with bio-components.
