The Clutch and Drivetrain category covers components that transfer power from the engine to the gearbox and onward to the wheels/tracks. You will find clutch friction discs, pressure plates (clutch covers), release bearings, flywheels (single- and dual-mass), prop shafts, Cardan joints and universal-joint crosses.
A worn clutch manifests as slipping (revs rise but the vehicle does not accelerate), judder on pull-away and difficulty selecting gears. In construction machines clutches operate under extreme torque loads — timely replacement prevents gearbox damage.
The main symptom is slipping — at full throttle engine revs rise but the vehicle does not accelerate proportionally. Other signs: judder on pull-away, clutch-pedal vibration, difficulty engaging reverse and a burning-lining smell.
Always replace the full kit: disc, pressure plate and release bearing. Labour cost (gearbox removal) far exceeds the bearing cost — saving on one component makes no sense. Also consider replacing the flywheel if it is dual-mass and has over 200,000 km.
In passenger cars 100,000-200,000 km. In trucks 200,000-500,000 km. Lifespan depends on driving style, load and operating conditions. In construction machines the clutch wears faster due to frequent loaded starts.
